"Well, isn't that SPE-CIAL?!"

Church Chat SNL

During a discussion the other day I was reminded of the reason I am so in love with God. A lot of us tend to forget about the real reason Christ died for us in the first place. We become one track minded individuals who can only see the world in two ways. Either you don’t fit in and so you reject or you think you fit in but you don’t. Well it’s time for us all to step back and realize what we are and who we should be.

Do you fit in?

Do you feel “weird” among the crowd at church?

Well you shouldn’t, but at the same time why do you?

Let’s dissect this for a second: This is why I love God and the Bible so much because we are all sinners. Not soon after recognizing this though we tend to see ourselves like Adam and Eve in the garden trying to hide the shame of our sin. But instead of using fig leaves we hide behind the world and turn our face from God. “I don’t want to go to church; I don’t fit in with all those good people.” ERRRRR!!! Wait a second. Only one has ever dwelt among us that had the power and authority to call himself good. I am not good and even though I look good on the outside and may act good, God sees the heart and knows all of us and our true desires. Even the ones among us who seem pure still have muddy hearts. So if you feel ashamed of your sin and it keeps you away from God remember that your debt has been paid in full.  And shame on those of us that are so “holy” that we push others away. Too many of us Christians have become the Crazy Church Lady from SNL and we get consumed by our own righteousness that we become self servant. (Myself included). Christ didn’t come down to judge the world, yet, rather he came to bring division among those who became Self Righteous and forgot that only God can deliver us from our sins. We should have open arms and open hearts to all who are weary and lame, sick and sinners. Who are we as Christians to place judgment on anyone, for any reason?

Now don’t get me wrong, we are doing our best to live a straightened arrow life and follow in the footsteps of Christ as laid out in the Bible. But, there is a fine line between being a hypocrite and a follower of the lord. Someone’s sins should never be held against them, as ours are not held against us (for those who believe). We are to love and be generous of our time and resources and never give up hope. For those of you that feel like the shoe doesn’t fit and you keep finding reasons not to trust God and not to follow God please base your decisions on your Eternity and not the day to day monotony of this temporary life. Your family and children hang in the balance as does your own fate. If you feel that deep down call and a sense of emptiness in your heart then embrace Jesus and let him be the one to bring you the peace you are seeking. If you’re a holy rolling sinner like me then maybe it’s time to look in the mirror and hit the refresh button. Stop trying to point fingers and instead open your arms and embrace the ones around you that are lost. We need to be the example, and the only way to do that is to live it and walk it. Shut your mouth and open your heart!

"so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it." Isaiah 55:11
